Initial Assessment.
S/P 10 HBO tx and daily wound care.
S/P 15 HBO tx and daily.
S/P 25 HBO tx. [Proceeded to full closure after 30 tx].
This 40-year-old white female presented with previous medical history of anaplastic astrocytoma at the age of 10, status post tumor resection, followed postoperatively with radiation. Subsequently, patient presented with a non-healing chronic wound of the scalp due to radiation soft tissue breakdown, that had been present for over 30 years and had not responded to conventional wound care or skin grafts.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy was started along with daily wound care. Response to HBO was immediate and dramatic over 30 sessions.
