The Center for Wound Healing, Inc. ("CFWH") ("CFWH.OB") develops and manages hospital-based wound care centers that provide traditional wound care and hyperbaric ("HBOT") treatments to outpatients on an outsourced basis. We operate 35 wound care centers in the eastern United States in partnership with acute care hospitals. These centers provide contract services for wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Our company employs approximately 170 full time professionals; 65 medical professionals including doctors, physicians and nurses complement of efforts across the portfolio.
CFWH was incorporated in December 2005. Its predecessor company was founded by physicians in 1997 with a focus on establishing in-hospital centers of excellence to treat the growing incidence of severe grade diabetic wounds of the lower extremities and wounds that are unresponsive to general wound care treatments. The Company's centers have consistently achieved high treatment success rates, resulting in a dramatic increase in patient quality of life and significant cost savings to the healthcare system. Diabetics comprise 80 percent of our patient population across our portfolio of centers. Medical professionals that refer their patients to us include vascular surgeons, podiatrists, oral surgeons, oncologists, plastic surgeons, orthopedists, endocrinologists and nurse practitioners.
We offer significant benefits to hospitals by bringing to them and the community they serve leading edge comprehensive wound care, including hyperbaric therapy that may not have been available to the community beforehand. We operate only within the hospital environment and with respect to hyperbaric medicine, only treat patients who qualify under Medicare approved indices.
